Introduction

Colour enthusiasts and the design community always prospect for new influences like art collections, social media, and fashion, which garnered worldwide attention to use in their work. The Pantone Color Institute, a pioneer in colour consulting and forecasting, revealed ‘Viva Magenta 18’ as Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2023. A carmine red with an earthy undertone and a hint of pink, the colour encourages an attitude towards experimentation, emanates vim, and yet is grounded in its demeanour. Let’s look at different ways to bring this year’s Pantone colour of the year the gorgeous viva magenta into any space.

Just Paint Pantone’s Colour of the Year

What’s easier than painting this lively colour on a wall or accents to add that oomph and personality? We found the closest options to Viva Magenta 18 to be Berger’s Bright Wine (1A0366) and Nippon’s Drama Red from their Reds and Pinks series. Check out this beautiful ensemble of subtle olive green with grey furniture and foliage with a pop of Magenta. These subtle colours bring in a balance and accentuate the psychological power and sensuality of Pantone 2023.

Viva Majestic Cabinets

Beautiful beige ceramic floors with natural light and neutral materiality can be the perfect canvas to bring the drama of the Pantone 2023 colour. The apartment interiors featured are designed by Nommo Arquitetos in Curitiba, Brazil. The living and kitchen adorn the Pantone 2023 colour, Viva Magenta 18, creating a seamless integration between the spaces. With clean lines, this red is bright, yet grounded. This setting is truly the perfect balanced, symmetrical contrast.

Installations and Shelving

The Bund Post Office in China, evokes nostalgia with the red tones of a traditional post office mixed with contemporary and modern cultural mixes. The complex includes a post counter, gifting, and a souvenir display. The display shelves painted in crimson lead to reading booths through terrazzo tiles. A material combination of grey and white tiles, glass and magenta shelves create the perfect levels of strength and warmth.

Experiment with carpets and rugs

Designers shy away from the red family, dark, bold colours. Some say “red” is an acquired taste however the vastness and richness of the colour makes it easy to pair it with other “rich” interiors. Let’s take a look at their bar stools from Jetclass. Exactly how designers revere the holy trinity of crimson, black and gold, magenta is a perfect alternative to crimson. We have picked out Elegant Oriel and Alpine which are pretty close matches to the Pantone colour trend. Sofa, swing chairs, standalone armchairs, pouffes are a great way to add a dash of colour. It will also work with different design principles.

Colour Blocking

Masquespacio, a Valencia-based studio, brought splashes of their signature style through this main lobby. Now we know tiles cannot be limited to bathrooms and kitchens. The clash between millennial pink and crimson also shows two colours of the same family, which can be used together in the same space. The frame is divided between subtle, but over-powering concrete and a small yet assertive crimson lounge. These distinct spaces are brought together by mechanical systems, ample daylight, and spotlights, creating common ground

Art, accents and accessories

Hanging eclectic artwork brings colour to the walls. This comforting yet exciting Viva Magenta 18, can be perfectly incorporated in prints using the PMS colours, which are colours documented by Pantone Colour Trends.

The Pink City, a diverse print designed by Artist Kavya Bagga, shows her version of Jaipur. We love the contrast between blue, gold, magenta, and crimson.

Apart from artwork, other accessories like statement decor pieces, and fabrics for cushions and blinds. Here is the Dale chair by Laskasas. Now we have another gorgeous colour combination to work with, grey, magenta, brown, and beige.

Have a kid’s bedroom to work with? No problem. Try this gorgeous rainbow wallpaper from Life n Colours, as a wall-highlighter. This wallpaper is busy yet congruous. Take a look at all the hues of teal, lavender, whites, pinks and more paired with Viva Magenta 18.
