Adding decor to the heart of any household

The living room is the space that opens one household to strangers; thus creating a decor that resonates with its occupants is quite essential. Several elements tie a living room design, from colour to furniture and fabrics.
There are a few tips and tricks for living room furniture:

1. Picking a colour palette

Colours help set the style or theme for the space, so the selection of an interesting colour spectrum that matches the user’s personality is fundamental. For instance, a monochromatic scheme matches with modern, vintage themes, where complimentary schemes are a part of chalet, contemporary, eccentric themes. A colour palette helps in assembling the other components of the space and maintaining harmony in design.

2. Fix a focal point

The focal point gives direction to the observer’s eye when they first walk in. In other terms, a focal point is where all furniture is directed to. These are normally textured walls or large artwork objects. Focal points set an order to the space and hold all units together. The best part of the space is to be made the focus.
Moreover, it’s not necessary that it should be situated indoors. If an exterior opening or view is present, that can be the focus with the bonus of using window areas more elegantly to accent the same.

3. Furniture

Furniture layout is the trickiest part of a design. Unknowingly the type of furniture decides the activity in the room and the lifestyle adopted. For instance, Chesterfields depict a more luxurious sense of style, a sectional shows more of a collective living, and a chaise lounge is contemporary in style.
The placement of furniture decides the conversation circle of the space. Ideally, a placement where all those in the space are insight is advised. Moreover conversation circles are to be such that people can talk to each other without straining their necks or without being uncomfortable. Layout should also be considering the traffic flow around the space with enough space to move around the room.

4. Slash the showroom feel

It is often seen that living room design ideas of big stores are replicated at homes to the point. Personalising a space elevates the overall aura and establishes a sense of belonging within. Curating each piece as per one taste is an experience that every homeowner goes through. This adds an emotional quotient to the area. The decor or arrangement at stores can be quite tempting. However, personal touch and comfort are what elevate the settings.

5. Lighting

Living rooms harbour a plethora of activities, unique to each individual. They range from relaxation, to gatherings, conversations, entertainment, etc. to name a few. Hence lighting in the area must be such that it caters to all the needs of everyday life. Multiple light work goes into living space; spotlighting, artworks & family portraits, simple lighting for miscellaneous usage, task lighting for reading etc.Incorporation of dimmer switches are a good addition to set the tone of the room.

6. Form & Function

Aesthetics are essential for any design. The beauty of the place is what attracts one to use it. Although an ideal space is equal parts beautiful and functional. No matter how ravishing a space might be, in the end, one has to live in it. Always incorporate pieces that cater to both storages as well as décor.
Living rooms are a reflection of the people that dwell in the space. This is the area where conversations happen, memories are made and guests are welcomed; hence aesthetically designing the space is always a merit.
